It started back in '89 when PHLEBOTOMIZED had another name (Bacterial Disease) and only three members: Tom - guitars, Patrick - bass, and Lawrence - drums.

The style was more in the veins of traditional grind hard-core, but after a while it didn't seem satisfying or chalenging enough to go on with. So the first steps towards Phlebotomized's actual style were set, combining brutality with melody...

In the end of '90, Barry (vels) and Ben (keys) had joined the band. For about a year the band searched for a second guitarist. Several candidates came at the rehersals, but none of them really seemed to fit in the band, so the search went on...
The band finally found a suitable 6 stringer in a good friend of the band, Jordy.

Satisfied with the line-up, Phlebotomized started practising for their very first demo and with this sextet the debut demo "Devoted To God" was produced in March '92.

The tape was sent to all kinds of labels, and soon Cenotaph rec. from Holland offered the band to release a 7``EP on their label and the band agreed... From this colaboration resulted "In Search Of Tranquility"

So in August '92, Phlebotomized hit the studio once more to record the new material. During these recordings, the band experimented with a violonist named Maarten. Initially this was to be a mere studio thing, but during the rehersals the band began to appreciate his melancholic tunes more and more. The mini-CD was named "Preach Eternal Gospels"

A little later the inevitable happened. Maarten became Phlebotomized's seventh permanent member.

During January '94, Barry left the band and again a good friend of the band stepped forward to recruit.

The line-up at that moment was:
Dennis Geestman - vocals,
Tom Palms - guitar,
Jordy Middelbosch - guitar,
Patrick v/d Zee - bass,
Lawrence Payne - drums,
Ben Quak - keys,
Maarten Post - violins.

With this line-up they recorded in July '94 at Beaufort Studio a full length CD, titled "Immense Intense Suspense".

In an interview We made at that time, Tom expained Us why they have chosen the name "Phlebotomized":
"Phlebotomy has to do with brain surgery. Phlebotomy means that the incision is made. You can understand that it will give a bloody mess when the cut is made !"

He also said a few words about their material "Immense Intense Suspense":
"The new material is more melodic but just as heavy as the old songs. They are a little bit more technical, but better to understand, I think. The keys play a more dominant role, but not too much. Two of the new songs have really fast parts but all is combined with acoustic parts, slow parts, havy rithmical. Our new singer Dennis will add something new too. I wonder how people will react to Dennis voice. Personaly I think that he is an agressive fucker !

The line-up is still unmodified, and now Phlebotomized is no more a little band from Netherlands, of wich nobody heard. Their sound is unique, and once you have listened to them, you will become addicted to Maarten's violin, you will listen many times to their songs and you will never get bored ...

If you get "Immense Intense Suspense", be sure to read the thanx list ... You will sure be amazed ...
